Win Butler & Spike Jonze are releasing a shot movie based on the music by Arcade Fire’s massively successful album “the Suburbs” this upcoming Tuesday August 2, 2011.
I don’t know a lot about the movie other than Jonze directed it, Win wrote part of it, it was filmed in Texas (where the Butler brothers grew up) and it takes place in an alternate reality where the country is under military rule. The music video for the title song “the Suburbs” on the album “The Suburbs” has been described as an introduction to the 30 minute movie (which is confusingly called “Scenes from the Suburbs”).
Here is said music video. It looks pretty interesting:
One of the comments I saw after reading that was
I didn’t give this band more respect after they won their grammy. I gave the grammy’s more respect for recognizing them.
I’m especially excited for this movie for several reasons. Firstly, I think Jonze has directed some great music video’s (Weapon of Choice by Fatboy Slim, for example). He’s also done some really good movies (Adaptation, Being John Malkovich, Where the Wild Things Are). Secondly, I think Arcade Fire may have a chance to be an Academy winning musical group, putting them in the same category as “Three Six Mafia”. Lastly… I think it looks like a good story! On Tuesday, you’ll be able to get a done up version of the album “the Suburbs” which as an
extended version of “Wasted Hours” and has two new tracks – “Culture Wars” as well as “Speaking in Tongues”. Both of which sound great, and you can get a preview of the new songs by visiting THIS LINK HERE.
Anyone up for an Arcade Fire party Tuesday?
