A little bit of this…a little bit of that

This is just a list of things that have been of interest to me lately, and thought I’d share:

Crossing Borders–a documentary about 4 Americans and 4 Moroccans traveling together–East meets West–Muslims and non-Muslims–breaking stereotypes and learning about the ‘others’ Looks good.

Another movie that was at the Sundance Film Fest last year and won some awards: Afghan Star. Kind of an American or Canadian Idol but in Afghanistan. We take for granted how something like singing can be dangerous or risky in another country.

A web site about 2 guys who did a ‘Ramadan Roadtrip’ and traveled to 30 different mosques during Ramadan 2010. They share their experiences on each day of their travels and now they are on a speaking tour around university campuses. Great way to break stereotypes and educate others about Islam.

Random British dude speaking in 24 different accents. But he forgot Canadian, ay!

Movie on the top of my Netflix list: South of the Border by Oliver Stone. His look at Hugo (oh how I want to go to Venezuela one day and watch an episode of Ola Presidente!) and the other leaders down in South America.

Ok…back to writing cover letters, preparing for job interviews, and reading The Girl Who Played with Fire (can’t put it down!)

I’ve heard good things about South of the Border, apparently Stone’s interviews are outstanding. I like how the trailer opens with Chavez DECLARED ENEMY!

In other south of the border news, he’s also producing a bio about Pablo Escobar right now set to come out in 2012 which should be good considering his other bio movies.

    Jeff,
I finally saw South of the Border and it was pretty good. Having studied the ‘New Left’ in my Latin American politics class it was exciting to see all these leaders I had read about in one movie. Stone tries to portray Chavez like he is a saint, which I don’t think he is. I don’t think he’s as dangerous as Fox News might portray him, but the man has his own version of democracy I believe. Yeah, I’ll have to read up on the Escobar film.
